Pierre Rescan - Musicology

Musicians and the Sea

In 2004, he was awarded his Doctorate in Musicology at the University of Rouen.
The subject of his thesis was 'Musicians and the Sea: from the Belle Époque to the Crazy Years - in Dieppe, Pourville and Varengeville, 1885-1925'.

His 562 page dissertation is a scholarly blend of words, music, photographs and color illustration. It's a study of the rapport between the painters, composers, musicians and poets – including: Monet, Pissarro, Turner, Blanche, Renoir, Saint Saëns, Debussy, Fauré, Massenet, Granados, Elgar, Wilde, Maeterlinck, Proust, and Sarah Bernhardt… who, at the turn of the century, were all drawn to Normandy's seaside resorts.

Pierre's doctorate was awarded by a unanimous decision of the academic jury.
